Tonight, the
8th edition of the Panorama of the European Film will take place. The Panorama
of the European Film بانوراما الفيلم الأوروبي starting from
the 25th of November till the 5th of December 2015. For the first time ever the
Panorama will expand outside of Cairo to include a total of four cities in
Egypt, the other cities are Tanta (Rivoli Cinema), Menya (City Scape Cinema)
and Alexandria (Amir Cinema)
The Panorama
is an opportunity for Egyptian audiences to dive into the world and visions of
the Europeans. This is one of the reasons for which the EU has been supporting
the Panorama since its second edition in 2009. Attending the event is First
Secretary, Sebastian Trenner, Head of Human and Social Development section at
the European Union Delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The Panorama
will give Egyptian audiences the chance to watch 60 European films, divided
into 10 sections. Some of the sections' highlights include the Balkan Focus,
showing a panel of films from the region, Carte Blanche, a section composed of
three Egyptian filmmakers’ European film preferences, and the Manoel de
Oliveira Tribute, honouring the work of the late well-renowned Portuguese
filmmaker.
The Panorama
will take place in ten screening venues, seven of which are in Cairo. In Cairo,
screenings will be held in two main cinemas: Zawya Cinema (Odeon) and the
newly-renovated Karim Cinema in Emad El Din St., in addition to special
screenings in Plaza (Sheikh Zayed) and Point 90 (Tagamo’), as well as free
screenings in collaboration with the Italian Culture Institute, the Goethe
Institute and the French Institute in Mounira, which will be held in their premises.
The opening
ceremony will take place in Cinema Karim tonight from 18:30 to 20:00
