"The convening of the Egyptian Parliament is an important step in the country's political transition. I am sure that it will inject momentum to that transition, through providing the necessary legislative oversight and by implementing the Constitution approved overwhelmingly by the Egyptian people in 2014, notably including its provisions on rights and fundamental freedoms. And I am confident that a very important aspect of our relationship, namely EU-Egypt parliamentary relations, will now be reactivated and contribute significantly to improving mutual understanding among our peoples and their representatives.
The EU will continue to support Egypt in meeting the aspirations of its people."
